The Japanese invasion of Malaya on the 8th December 1941 resulted in 84 Squadron being one of a number of squadrons ordered to reinforce British and Commonwealth forces in the Far East.
The 84 Squadron arrived in Sumatra in late January 1942. The squadron were evacuated to Java in February 1942 following the Japanese Invasion of Sumatra.
In the Battle of Kalidjati the squadron lost its remaining Blenheims and twenty of its personnel when the Japanese troops attacked and captured the base of the RAF's bombers in Java.
