Just before the Japanese invasion of Malaya, Emilia and Evelyn Mary were evacuated from Singapore to Fremantle on 11th February 1942. They waited there for news of Herbert Henry and after learning of his death they returned to England arriving 3rd May 1944. Evelyn Mary served in WRNS from August 1944 to September 1945.
Cyril served on HMS Victorious Fleet Air Arm which was part of the operation for bombing the oil refineries to stop the Japanese having the fuel for their war effort. After serving on HMS Victorious and the war was over, Cyril re trained as an aeronautical engineer and served as a shore based test pilot for Fleet Air Arm.
