Miyo Maru badly damaged in Typhoon but reached Taiwan.

At Takao, Taiwan PoWs transferred to Tamahoko Maru. As it was a cargo ship the holds held copper ore.

Attacked by USS Tang. Two torpedoes hit the Tamahoko Maru and there was a large explosion, within two minutes the ship sunk to the bottom.

At about 10am the next morning a rescue took place.
The Japanese soldiers were the first to be picked up, the POWs were the last to be saved.
In the afternoon the 212 survivors were taken to Nagasaki harbour and hosed down at the docks.
212 were saved, some being seriously ill, but most were transported to Fukuoka 14B Camp.
