History

James married Constance Mary Marshall,  a nurse from the Tan-Tock Seng Hospital in singapore, around 1941 they had a daughter whom they named Marion (Marion Kathleen Calderwood) after James mother.

Captured Singapore

Transported on the Hofuku Maru to Japan

 

Died

Age: 31

21st September 1944

James died when the Hofuku Maru, in which he was being transported, was sunk by planes from an American Aircraft Carrier, 80 miles north of Corregidor.

SINGAPORE MEMORIAL

 

Connie and her daughter Marion were repatriated to Singapore in 1946. The Repatriation Office then at 29 Chesham Place, London gave her passage on the S.S. Boschfontein sailing from Southampton on 22 June 1946 to Singapore.
