1947 to 1960
Robert joined the Royal Marines in 1947 at Deal in Kent, England, in the infantry. Trained at Dartmoor then went on to the 43rd commando's then on to the 45th commamdo's.
Robert was sent on passage 13th September 1950 to the 11th October 1950.
Ganges from the 18th April to the 15th October 1951.
Then he went to RM BKS Eastrey from 16th October 1951 to 10th January 1952.
Robert and the 45th Commando's where then sent to the 1952 Olympic Games and escorted the Duke of Edinburgh's yacht back to England.
He fought in the middle east, Cyprus, Malaya, Malta, Honk Kong when the stern gang were moving arms, Bengasi, Haifa.
Robert is pictured above at his granddaughter’s wedding when he gave her away, proudly wearing his Royal Marine badge on his jacket.
Robert was still fighting, although this time it was prostate cancer that led to bone cancer.
Robert passed away in April 2006.
