LEUNG PING

LEUNG PING being duly sworn and with the assistance of the Interpret :um LAURIE CHAN of ANGAU gives the following evidence:-

I was residing inHong Kong when I was taken into custody by the Japanese, in about December 1941. After going to various places they eventually took me to BUIN where I arrived in Octobor, 1942.

I witnessed the incident related by CHER CHEE when  a. Chinese was forced to drink water and the Japanese put a plank across him and see-sawed on his stomach. I witnessed the incident described by PON SEE when the Japanese put a sick Chinese in a sack to be taken away and buried.

In the beginning of 1943 I saw s white prisoners near the KAHILY air strip. He was dressed in khaki shirt and khaki long trousers. He didn't have a hat and I could not see if' he was wearing boots as a number of Japanese were crowding around him. I was about 30 yards away from him. I saw about 20 Japs file past the prisoner who was squatting on the ground and poured tins of boiling water over him. As far as I could see his hands were not tied. The prisoner was screaming with pain and the Japs were laughing and clapping their hands. Some of the Japanese slapped the prisoner with their hands, and others with sticks. The Japanese were speaking to him in a language which was not Japanese and which I think was English.  I was working in the area for about an hour and a half and when I left the white prisoner was still there. He was still alive, I did not see him taken away.  The Japanese were soldiers but I do not know their unit. At the time I was working.

Our guards were Military Police. The Japanese characters for the unit appear at the foot of this statement.

I also saw a white man who looked like a missionary in the MUGAI area. This was about November 1942. He was not being ill-treatad when I saw him. In March 43 I saw about 30 Indians in the BUIN area. They were in a truck passing by.

Signed in the field this Tenth day of Octobor, 1945.
